This site is currently under construction so please bear with my lack of progress. It’s a much bigger undertaking than I initially thought. But, John Owen is a stud and his stuff is well worth reading.
This site is dedicated to the theology and writings of John Owen, the great Puritan pastor and theologian of the 17th Century. Postings will include quotes, thoughts and expositions of Owen’s great writings found in his 16 Volume set, The Works of John Owen.
This site is managed by me. My name is George and I love John Owen. I graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary in 2006 and came to know the writings of John Owen through Dr. John Hannah.
Owen’s view of the Christian life is particularly refreshing in today’s world of 10-step processes to sanctification. His encouragement to glorify God through the act of mortifying sin makes one see the severity of their sin and the wonder of the grace of God.
“Let the heart never so little disuse itself to gracious, soul-affecting thoughts of the love of God, the cross of Christ, the greatness and excellency of gospel mercy, the beauties of holiness, they will quickly be as much estranged to a man as he can be to them. He that shuts his eyes for a season in the sun, when he opens them again can see nothing at all.”
